TUITION
eXit SPACE adult classes are paid for using either a class card or a tuition fee. Class cards are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.

1 hour adult classes use a Green Class Card
     5 classes = $55      10 classes = $100      20 classes = $190
1 1/2 hour adult classes use an Orange Class Card
     5 classes = $65      10 classes = $120      20 classes = $230
Basic Level classes use a once-per-session tuition fee. Sessions are 8 weeks in length and classes meet one hour per week. Tuition is $80. See the basic class section below for more details.

For each student, an annual, non-refundable $20.00 registration fee is required at the time of enrollment. This fee covers administrative and insurance costs, and does not depend on the number of classes the student elects to take.

Students can also "drop-in" to any 1 hour or 1 1/2 hour class they would like to try out (drop-ins are not accepted for basic level classes). The drop-in fee is $15.00 per session, and no registration fee is required. If you've never danced at eXit SPACE before, we offer a discounted first-time drop-in fee of only $8.

Payments may be made using our online store or in person via personal check, cash, or credit/debit card. Checks should be made payable to eXit SPACE.

BASIC CLASSES
If you’ve never taken a dance class before or are unfamiliar with a particular dance genre, never fear! The eXit SPACE Basic class was designed specifically for dancers like you.

Basic sessions are offered for Tap, Modern, Ballet, and Hip-Hop. Each sessions is 8 weeks in length and classes meet one hour per week. Over the course of a basic session, our instructors will cover the fundamentals, with an emphasis on introducing each student to the structure of dance class and the core elements of technique. Students progress through each class, developing body awareness, correct alignment, strength, and increased flexibility. Even if you’re convinced you were born with two left feet, our experienced faculty will guide you through the process of learning the fundamentals.

Basic class students will receive a syllabus for the session, highlighting the core concepts to be covered and providing additional resources such as web links, books and reference articles, and upcoming local dance performances. At the end of the session, each student will have an opportunity to sit down with the instructor and determine if the student is ready to move on to card-based classes (e.g. beginning modern or intermediate hip-hop) or if it would be better to continue developing the fundamentals by taking another basic session.

Basic class sessions for the 2011-2012 season are:
Session 1 September 12 - November 6
Session 2 November 7 - January 22
Session 3 January 23 - March 18 (next available session)
Session 4 March 19 - May 13
Session 5 May 14 - July 15
Session 6 July 16 - September 9

Pre-Registration is required. To register for a basic session or get additional information, please call us at 206.949.8643 to discuss your interests.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
At eXit SPACE, we dedicate each class to the specific needs and abilities of our students. Our highly skilled faculty of professional dance educators teach from a supportive and encouraging place as we motivate and guide our students to reach their fullest potential.

Modern with Laurel
Laurel’s class emphasizes the awareness of movement within the body. By tapping into the sensory experience of dance, students will learn how to infuse their movement with different energetic qualities. Class will investigate smooth, circular, and seamless dancing with special emphasis on fueling movement using gravity and momentum. Phrase work will explore how to move in and out of the floor by releasing and engaging the muscles of the body. A strong focus on interacting with space will engage students to leap, slide, roll and travel in all directions. Laurel seeks to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere for students to explore, experiment, and discover a new way to feel connected to their bodies.

Modern with Marlo Martin
Marlo’s class concentrates on building clean, sound and strong technique. Moving gently from the floor to standing, each exercise stresses the importance of strengthening the core in order to enhance integrated mobility throughout the entire body. Marlo borrows from her training in Barteniff Fundamentals™ and Laban™ to challenge each student with the art of musicality and weight shifting. Be ready to sweat while working on strength and mobility as you gain freedom in your dancing.

Modern with Jill Leversee
Class with Jill challenges the student to increase awareness of and presence in her/his body. Jill incorporates elements of yoga, Horton and Graham modern to reap the benefits of energy flow, flexibility and core strength. Her teaching focuses on the expression of body and self through movement by building a strong technical base of proper alignment, strength, and flexibility, while giving dancers the freedom to explore their own personal style.

Ballet & Conditioning
This is a low-level ballet class that includes warm-up exercises on mats, a strengthening barre with lots of stretching, lyrical center-floor combinations, and more long stretching on mats. This is a great class for beginners and a wonderful relaxing work-out for any level.

Ballet
Class emphasis is on placement, strength development, body awareness and quality of movement. Class approaches alternate between a purely classical style and those designed with a more contemporary view of ballet technique. Ballet class can be used to reinforce technique for other dance forms, or continue perfecting placement and classical lines. Every class includes a comprehensive barre and center practice.

Pointe
Pointe class is for students with strong ballet training who are interested in starting/revisiting pointe work. Each hour-long class is divided into two parts: strengthening and variation work. All students will work at the barre on strengthening, participate in short exercises across the floor, and be given tips on how to improve technique. After strengthening, some students will be asked to change to flat shoes as we begin to learn more difficult variations. As the more beginning pointe student improves, there will be opportunities for her to work in the shoes for longer periods of time.

Jazz
All classes explore the various styles of jazz including lyrical, modern, commercial, and musical-theatre. Class begins with a comprehensive warm-up that focuses on building strength, flexibility, and proper technique. Students will develop their technique through challenging leaps, turns, and progressions.

Tap
Each class works from a solid foundation of classical tap. All students will learn basic tap skills and technique. As the student progresses, more detailed and difficult steps, syncopated rhythms and more challenging progressions will be taught.

Hip-Hop
Hip hop styles vary from teacher to teacher and coast to coast. At eXit SPACE, students can count on a thorough warm up to practice (and/or learn) how to isolate their bodies with clear dynamics, building the necessary strength and flexibility for optimal movement. Each class is taught using unique, current, and fun choreography. As the student progresses, the choreography and movement becomes more challenging.

Yoga for Every Body
This viniyoga-based class is designed to make yoga accessible for all body types and abilities. Come stretch, strengthen, and relax your body through a combination of both gentle as well as invigorating postures. Learn how connecting movement with breath can help calm and center the body and mind. Appropriate for all levels, including beginners.

Pilates Mat
Utilizing the Basic Principles of Pilates (Breathing, Pelvic Placement, Rib Cage Placement, Scapular Movement & Stability and Head & Cervical Placement) and a contemporary approach, this class is designed to strengthen and stabilize your core while creating longer, leaner muscles and reducing bulk. Benefits to Mat Pilates include:
