PERFORMANCES AND WORKSHOPS

YOGA FOR ALL DANCERS

We have all heard dance teachers calling out instructions and guidance such as, "Find your center", "Lift your core", "Release your hip flexors and use the back of your legs", and "Feel your back". Dancers of all ages and levels struggle to find these deep connections and points of release and control within their bodies. Yoga can help attain these goals. This workshop will give students the opportunity to tap into their internal sense of movement through a deeper and more mindful approach. We will explore the connection between breath and movement to release muscle and joint tension, as well as calm and center the mind. Class will incorporate both energizing/strengthening elements, as well as therapeutic and re-cooperative poses. Students will leave feeling more balanced, whole, and connected in their bodies. Dancers will be prepared to bring this refreshing and new body awareness into their dance classes!

The full content of the workshop will be presented over the course of two sessions. Although you are welcome to register just one session, we strongly suggest you attend both sessions.

Session I - Sunday, July 18 / 4-7PM
Session II - Sunday, July 25 /4-7pm

Tuition - $85 for full two session workshop / $45 for individual session
Faculty Annie deVuono, Laurel Lakey, and Jill Leversee.

Now that you're excited and ready to dance your summer days away, all you need to do is register! Just email us at marlo@exitspacedance.com.

You deserve to have fun and be a part of a magical weekend of ballet!

the BOOST dance festival - March 27-28, 2010
BOOST is a dance festival meant to create an opportunity for Seattle contemporary dance artists of all genres to showcase their work alongside their peers. The hundreds of artists that call the northwest home compete each year to be showcased in a handful of festivals; the competition is tough, leaving many eligible and talented artists to self-produce at a high financial cost. Marlo Martin, of eXit SPACE school of dance, understands the struggle of the artists. Ms. Martin has been a director, performer, teacher, and choreographer in the northwest for the past seven years and is now stepping into the role of producer. Martin shares, “I have a deep sense of obligation to step forward and produce. I have had so many artists help me along my path and now I can begin to give back. I look forward to introducing a diverse set of dance works to a Seattle audience.” In addition to producing Marlo has also been in collaboration with Northwest Dance Syndrome, a long standing professional modern company. NWDS will present their work, choreographed by Martin at the BOOST dance festival, “I hope that by showing a successful collaboration we can begin to work with one another in the dance community; new faces and partnerships lead to fresh ideas!”
