Karen Baskett grew up as a competitive figure skater in St. Louis, MO and participated in gymnastics, ballet, and jazz classes to enhance her skating posture. In college, she gravitated toward dance and stage performance at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff when she was part of the dance chorus for the University’s production of Kiss Me Kate. She quickly fell in love with dance performance and became heavily involved in Flagstaff's dance community. She performed with Canyon Movement Company and co-founded Dakini Movement Company while teaching Jazz and Ballet at ARC Dance Studio. In 2000 she moved to New York City and was accepted into the work-study program at Steps on Broadway. Karen taught Jazz and Tap classes within Steps’ Youth Program and continued to expand her experience absorbing all that the NYC dance scene had to offer. Karen performed with several modern and tap companies while in NYC, but missed the mountains and the serenity of the west. In 2004 she made the move to Seattle and from 2005-2009 she was a member of oaklanDrive Dance Company based out of Exit Space dance studio. Karen is passionate about dance, and uses imagination and fun to turn her students into dance-lovers for life. She now lives in Port Orchard where she teaches at Just for Kicks dance studio and is thrilled to be a member of the faculty at eXit SPACE | ||||||||||
